Was one of your New Year’s Resolutions for 2019 to learn hand lettering? If so, then this January Beginner Lettering Challenge is perfect for you!
This month I’m teaming up with Sarah from Ensign Insights again for a month long hand lettering challenge! We decided to combine a few ideas into one to create the ultimate hand lettering challenge for both beginners and seasoned lettering artists alike! What exactly does that mean? Let me break it down for you.
Part One: Begin with the Basics: Basic Strokes for Handlettering
Did you know that just a few basic strokes create almost the entire lower case handlettered English alphabet? It’s really that simple! We’re going to kick off the first five days of the challenge with practicing those basic strokes.
If you’re not sure what those strokes are, feel free to use this example below.
Part Two: The Lower Case ABCs
The next 26 days of the challenge go through the English alphabet one day at a time! It’s as simple as that. If you’ve struggled with certain letters, make sure to follow me over on Instagram for more tips on specific letters!
Part Three: Motivational Words
We could have just done one letter a day to practice those ABCs… but you know this over thinker couldn’t handle that. So instead, we added a third part to this lettering challenge: motivation! So for the last 26 days of the challenge you will find a motivational or inspirational word/phrase matched up to each letter to help cheer us along in our hand lettering journey! Beginner or pro, it doesn’t matter! We all can use some encouragement & motivation along the way!
