Today I am testing out the new Archer and Olive Blackout Journal which features black dot grid journal paper. Writing on black paper is super fun, especially when trying out white, neon and metallic colored stationery!
Watch the video to see the results or read through my review below.
I cannot get enough of the Archer and Olive journals! I have purchased four different ones in the past but I did want to add a disclaimer that this Blackout version was sent to me – thank you! It has silver detailing, comes with a linen cover and has 160 pages with a pen holder, two bookmarks and an elastic strap to keep it all together.
I love the quality of the paper and that my brush pens don’t bleed through when lettering – you can even use watercolors in them!
I tested out some of my favorite metallic markers which was so fun because black paper and metallic markers just make your lettering pop!
You would have seen in my metallic brush pen comparison video that these markers tend to be super juicy with lots of ink so for them to not bleed through means we’ve got some really great paper.
Gelly Roll Pens
I have a huge stash of Gelly Rolls and I tested out the Neon and Glaze version in this journal. I’ve tested them out on white paper and color swatched them for you in this video but they are stunning on black paper as well!
The Glaze Gelly Roll’s have a 3D look once they dry – the colors aren’t very bright but you get a glazed, raised look that is super pretty! You need to make sure to write nice and slow to make sure you’re getting lots of ink flow. If you were to use these for bullet journaling, you might need to wait a little bit longer than usual for them to dry.
The neon Gelly Roll’s really pop and are nice and bright on the black paper. They are super fun and would look really different if you were to fill our a whole journal page using these.
The Uniball Signo white gel pen writes nice and thick – I absolutely love it! I always have to write extra slowly with a gel pen to make sure my ink flow is even. I highly recommend this gel pen in white for journaling on black paper.
These Archer and Olive Journals always seem to sellout before I can get my hands on them, so if you’re interested in one I highly recommend getting on their email list (like I am!) so you’re updated when sales and stock arrive.
