How To Choose a Journaling Bible: Journaling Bible Comparison

February 22, 2019 by howtohandletter Leave a Comment

Bible Journal Comparison

Starting the practice of Bible journaling can sound a bit intimidating. There are so many different Bibles, features and supplies that can be used. But it really doesn’t have to be complicated! I’m going to help break down a few of the different Journaling Bibles that I have and what you may or may not love about them!

The Bibles that I’m sharing are all journaling Bibles, but each with different characteristics. Before I break them down, I first want to mention why I have so many Bibles. I never want to give off the impression that you need a lot of fancy tools or pretty Bibles to get into the Word. That is not my heart at all. In fact, the Bible that I have used the most often is one that I’m not sharing, because let’s be honest… it would be kind of like sharing my diary with you all! But it is very similar to the yellow Bible on the left, which is one that I actually purchased just to share with you!

So let’s break down the Bibles!
1. Crossway ESV Journaling Bible

This Bible is a smaller size and is great for on the go! It has lined margins and a warmer toned paper, but the lines are very faint and don’t bother me at all.

2. Interleaved Journaling Bible

What makes this Bible unique is that instead of journaling in the margins, you actually get a full sized blank page after every page of text. This means that if you’re like me and don’t want to be drawing or painting over the text of your Bible, you can still create big art pieces using one of these blank pages. The margins are smaller, so you might not be able to add much to that area but with so many blank pages, I don’t see this being an issue.

3. She Reads Truth Bible

This Bible is very unique and has been infused with artistic beauty throughout it! It has a lot of extra study tools like maps and timelines. There is beautifully illustrated Scripture, which can be great for those who don’t want to actually have to add the art to their Bibles. There are also devotionals, though I’ll add the disclaimer that I haven’t read them all so be sure to use your discernment in this area.

4. Leather ESV Journaling Bible

This Bible is beautiful! It has similar characteristics to the first Bible that I shared, but it can also be purchased in an interleaved edition if you’d like the extra pages. Keep in mind that mine is not interleaved, so if you do choose that, it may be thicker than the one that I have shared in the video!

Beginner Bible Journaling

I hope that is helpful for you. Again, please know that I’m not trying to make Bible journaling look intimidating or like you need a lot of things to get started. If you don’t want to purchase anything, that’s ok! You can grab a notebook, regular pen & your everyday Bible (or the free Bible app on your phone!) and dive in today! But if you are looking for a journaling Bible, I hope that this comparison will help you to decide which one will work best for you.

Make sure to check out the video if you’d like to see more details of each of these Bibles! And if you’d like receive Bible Journaling prompts, make sure to sign up below to be the first to know when Lettering to Memorize starts!

PS: I have linked some of the Bibles that I’ve been able to find, but I wanted to remind you to do your research and make sure to read descriptions before you buy! Lots of these Bibles come in multiple variations (i.e.: single-column, double-column, interleaved, etc.) and it could be easy to accidentally purchase one that has different features than you were looking for.  I have also noticed that the prices fluctuate greatly! I think the yellow Bible was around $7 when I purchased it, but I can’t find it that low currently. So I recommend doing a quick google search of Journaling Bibles whenever you’re ready to buy!
