Adult coloring has been around for a while and I always hear people say how relaxing it is. I’ll be honest, I don’t find this to be the case for me… at least not in the past. All of those teeny tiny little symmetrical shapes to fill in just makes me tense. But I really do see how coloring could be a relaxing practice, so I decided to make a coloring page that won’t make me want to pull my hair out! And of course, I had to start with the phrase that I’ve been saying for years!
This coloring page was made using the Procreate App and my iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil. It was super simple to do even though I am not naturally skilled at doodles and drawing.
First, I simply drew my lettering using a brush pen style of brush in procreate. This gave me my base for what I wanted my coloring page to be. Next, I lowered the opacity and added a layer on top of my original coloring page. On the next layer, I used a monoline pen to trace my brush lettered quote.
Once I had it completed, I hid the original layer and added some decorative swashes around the wording. I keep these large and free from pattern so that I didn’t have all of those tiny details to color in.
One thing that I think makes coloring relaxing is using my brush pens. This makes the coloring more peaceful to me and allows me to go slowly and carefully. This is also a great way to use up your frayed brush pens that aren’t so great for lettering anymore.
I did print my coloring page out on my beloved HP Premium paper in an attempt to keep my brush pens alive for a little bit longer. But you definitely don’t have to, especially if you’re not using delicate brush pens.
